#356  Scarce Small “BURNSIDE” Eagle Breast Plate, Nondug. Smaller than other eagle breast plates at approximately 2 ¼ inches. These plates are associated with the VMM belt and box plates are difficult to find. Very very nice condition. See American Military Belt Plates by O’Donnell & Campbell, Plate 448. 124. Early Dragoon US Plate, Non-dug. Outstanding pre-war Dragoon style buckle with fixed studs behind the “S”. John I. Pittman’s elliptical 1840s die used continuously from the Mexican War until late 1861 when the Ordnance Department sent revised sample plates to contractors. Pronounced convex curve to plate with early style studs and hook. Very nice condition.
