The 6th Maryland flag was “FROM THE
LOYAL CITIZENS OF ELTON MD TO THE 6TH REGIMENT MARYLAND VOLUNTEERS”
presented on Christmas Day, 1862. Known as the Fighting Sixth, having the most
losses of all Federal commands 236 deaths and 233 wounded. Identified in Regimental
Losses in the Civil War, Fox - Three Hundred Fighting Regiments.
