# 461  The National Flag Star is associated with 6th Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regimental flag. Star remnant along with five other stars, and fragments of red and white stripes were mounted with a large portion of the 6th Maryland Regiment flag. The 6th Maryland flag was professionally preserved in 2002 when in the extensive Daniel Hartzler Maryland Collection. The National Flag fragments were separated at that time and stabilized.

The 6th Maryland flag was “FROM THE LOYAL CITIZENS OF ELTON MD TO THE 6TH REGIMENT MARYLAND VOLUNTEERS” presented on Christmas Day, 1862. Known as the Fighting Sixth, having the most losses of all Federal commands 236 deaths and 233 wounded. Identified in Regimental Losses in the Civil War, Fox - Three Hundred Fighting Regiments.
